It’s all the hype in the media; people are going zero waste everywhere. Straws have become the new evil, and you are being looked at funny when you take a plastic bag. At least, that is the reality in my world.

But it seems that women mainly run this movement, why is that? The most famous one of them all is Bea Johnson, the author/owner of the zero waste family.

Now, I don’t think this is a field where only women should dominate. I believe men are just as important to be part of it, if not even more.

Why might you think? Let me put it in my words. Who do you think owns most of the big polluting companies? Men. Who is dominating politics and other governments? Men. Who invented plastic? Leo Hendrik Baekeland A man. Hmm, we carry the same name? Coincidence?

I also think that it might feel like a weakness to a lot of men if they would have to accept that they have majorly screwed up. While I don’t want to take a site here, in fact, I think it is equally essential for both sexes to change the way we consume and the way we live. I am mainly focusing on men here. Perhaps it is also because I am a man, and I can relate more.

Welcome to the Zero Waste Man blog.

I started running again and couldn’t help but notice the rubbish on the side of the street. I saw this in third-world countries and couldn’t believe it. There I just thought it must be the lack of education, and people were used to throwing the banana peel on the ground or the bones from the meal they just ate.

But then the plastic evolution happened, and companies could sell small sachets of detergent and other products to the third world.

Convenient on one side, yet deadly on the other.

With that, the problem of disposing of these plastic sachets arose.

The first world wasn’t any better. Just better at hiding this.

It seems we all know about how harmful plastic is to the environment, and becoming a zero waste man/woman is going to be something we all need to adopt into our life.

And this is the reason why zero waste man was born. I felt the need to spread the word like wildfire. Everyone needs to know how we can make a change, and we need to do it now.

My mission is simple: Give you the confidence and knowledge that you need to make smart decisions in your daily life. Now, this is not about being perfect. Oh no, it is more about being educated and making better decisions.

What is in it for you?

I want to give you hope in these dark plastic pollution days. Hand you the right tools to protect your health and the health of the planet.
Don’t worry, you won’t end up a hippie sitting around a campfire and playing the bongo, although that can be quite a fantastic experience.

It’s more to empower you and become aware of how you consume. We are all part of this, and we need to work together now more than ever.

Watch this video to restore your hope in humanity!

But where to start and isn’t it already too late?

The glass is half full or half empty which way do you want to look at it?

Don’t get me wrong here, I am not always an optimist, and after doing a lot of research, I have to admit I became quite sad and lost hope that we could fix many of our environmental problems. But I can sit here and worry about it, or I can take action and start making a difference while infecting others along the way.

So let’s start…

I've studied biology and lived for 3 years on an off-grid permaculture farm. I love kitesurfing and keeping my body healthy and fit. Hence, I care so much about keeping our environment clean and being as zero waste as possible. Being a zerowasteman is a superpower everyone has inside of themselves, and I want to teach you how you can unleash it.
