On my daily search of the internet I often stumble across some zero waste tips and tricks and companies that have good intentions.

Here I want to shine a light on them and introduce them to more people, because small steps make big changes.

I bought the Saola shoe after spending a lot of time researching and finding a gorgeous sustainable shoe that gives back to communities. But only after less than a year of wearing them, they are not holding up to what I was hoping for.
I reached out to Saola, and they got back to me promptly, asking me for pictures and more explanation, but then the conversation died. (or I didn't press send on the last email...)
They did suggest, however, that it wasn't due the sole but more the light structure of the fabric surrounding the shoe.

I still think they make some great shoes, and if you know that you don't lean right or left, this shoe will probably work really well for you.

I also send them an email again and probably have to shoot an update 🙂

Part of learning to live a zero-waste lifestyle or a low waste life is to understand what greenwashing is. Greenwashing is just one way to trick us into believing the products we buy are actually helping the environment or, to sat the least, are not harming the environment.
But what is greenwashing, and how can we spot it?
In this video, I explain the term greenwashing and how you can protect yourself from false claims.
There are a couple of apps that you can download for free that help detects when a company is greenwashing.

I have used it a couple of times here in the grocery stores in Canada only to find that most products weren't listed. Maybe it works better in the US.

One that I found works much better is called Yuka: https://bit.ly/32rFJdJ
Just scan the products in the supermarket, and it tells you whether they are good or bad.
